The Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, has announced that Adif will award the contract for the Manzanos–La Puebla de Arganzón section of the Burgos–Vitoria High-Speed Line (LAV) within this month. The winning bid, submitted by a temporary joint venture (UTE) between Obrascón Huarte Lain and Construcciones Sánchez Domínguez-Sando, amounts to €241.6 million.
Santano also reported progress on the procurement process for the earthworks and formation of the Piérnigas–Pancorbo section, currently out to tender. This 22.7 km stretch carries a main contract value of €357.6 million.
These updates were communicated during a site visit to the Pancorbo–Ameyugo section, where Santano emphasised the push to extend high-speed rail into the Basque Country. The project involves installing dual track in international gauge, with 77% of the route running through tunnels and viaducts. The new infrastructure will be integrated with existing corridors, including the A-1 motorway, which it intersects at two points.
Meanwhile, Adif is finalising procedures to commence earthworks and viaduct construction between the Burgos Railway Bypass and Valle de las Navas. This 16.7 km section will feature six viaducts, notably the Vena River viaduct and the Valle Stream viaduct, measuring 643 m and 444 m in length, respectively.
