The Spanish Train Drivers’ Union (Semaf) has called two further strikes at Renfe for 10 and 12 November. The first will be a 24-hour, total stoppage, while the second will consist of partial stoppages throughout the day. Both add to the general strike on 11 November, meaning the operator will face three consecutive days of industrial action.
The decision follows Thursday’s strike, whose turnout Renfe puts at 26.6%, with rising participation: 2.19% on the night shift, 23.84% in the morning and 34.06% in the afternoon.
Semaf is demanding compliance with the agreement signed on 9 February with the Ministry of Transport, Renfe and Adif, which provided for working groups to develop railway safety regulations and procedures. The union says that negotiation meetings have been postponed since April, with no progress and no meetings of the monitoring committee.
It is also calling for limits on the use of trainee status for new recruits, stronger protection against people being struck by trains, operational protocols for faults and emergencies, and the correction of technical deficiencies on trains such as the Class 106 units. Renfe maintains that it has met its commitments and that many of the outstanding measures fall outside its remit.
