Spanish infrastructure manager Adif is to upgrade Line 400 (Alcázar de San Juan–Cádiz) through the province of Córdoba to accommodate rail motorway traffic.
The works, which will focus mainly on track renewal and gauge clearance adaptation along the section running through the province, have a budget of close to €2.4m. They will be carried out in the municipalities of Montoro, Pedro Abad and El Carpio.
The scope includes renewal of embankments, track lifting, laying and levelling, as well as the construction of rock-fill retaining walls, vegetation clearance, cleaning of drainage ditches and cross-drainage works.
The works respond to the need to optimise network capacity to handle future rail motorway traffic between Algeciras, Madrid and Zaragoza, while also delivering greater reliability, quality and ride comfort for rail operations.
The line is currently closed through Despeñaperros owing to similar adaptation works.
