CargoBeamer expands three European routes with its semi-trailer technology

The offer of rolling-highway services is being increased by CargoBeamer between Germany, Italy and France, reinforcing an intermodal system able to carry semi-trailers not suited to crane handling.

CargoBeamer has increased frequencies on three rolling-highway connections in Germany, Italy and France using its proprietary semi-trailer transport system.

The Kaldenkirchen–Domodossola route now operates 22 round trips per week, one of the highest frequencies in Europe for this type of service. The Calais–Perpignan service runs eight weekly frequencies, having increased from four to six in spring, while the Kornwestheim (near Stuttgart)–Milan corridor now offers five weekly services in each direction, with departures from Monday to Friday.

CargoBeamer’s technology enables horizontal loading of units onto specially designed wagons, without the need for cranes or modifications to the semi-trailers. This capability is its main differentiator versus conventional intermodal transport.

The system is particularly advantageous for semi-trailers that cannot be handled by crane, allowing them to access rail without specific investment in lifting equipment. In addition, the high frequencies improve flexibility and reliability for time-sensitive logistics chains.

CargoBeamer plans to expand its French offer to two daily departures. In 2027, extensions to its Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola terminals will enter service, enabling a further increase in corridor capacity.
