Renfe has today hired 680 new entry-level sales staff, expanding the initial recruitment drive from 600 to 800 posts. They are now beginning their training period before joining Renfe Viajeros. According to the company, this is the largest intake of staff in this category in recent years.
These posts form part of the 2026 Public Recruitment Programme and are in addition to the 550 train driver posts and 360 workshop staff posts. This year’s recruitment plan provides for recruiting more than 2,000 new staff members. It is funded by the standard replacement rate and an additional rate, resulting from the agreement with the trade unions that called off the February strike. This additional rate provides for up to 1,200 new hires across various categories.
Admission takes place after candidates have retaken part of the entrance examination due to a leak of questions from the psychometric test.
Commercial operators are responsible for ticket sales and management, customer service, access control, incident management and operational support at stations. In addition to the requirements set out in the job advertisement, candidates were required to demonstrate communication skills, a customer-focused approach, the ability to work under pressure and flexibility.
Its launch coincides with the gradual roll-out of the new ticketing system from 28 October. This system will bring together the website, the mobile app, ticket offices, self-service ticket machines, travel agents, telephone bookings and on-board sales. The new staff will be required to help passengers adapt to these booking channels.
