The Talgo 230 project in Denmark has reached an important milestone. State-owned operator DSB has accepted the first push-pull trainset with a cab car, marking the start of the conversion of the sets already in service.
Talgo has just announced that the Danish operator accepted the first Talgo 230 equipped with a cab car on 17 September. It is another milestone in the Spanish manufacturer’s project in Denmark.
It comes less than a year after the first DSB Talgo 230s, which operate EuroCity services, entered service on the international Copenhagen–Hamburg route in November 2025.
Until now, these sets have operated with two end cars. Each acted as the interface with a locomotive at either end of the train. The cab car allows operation with a single locomotive at one end, in the configuration known as push-pull.
Acceptance allowed the puzzling process to begin on 21 September. This involves swapping end cars between trainsets. In this phase, trains with two end cars have exchanged their ends with trains that had two cab cars undergoing testing. The aim is to achieve the final configuration the fleet requires. The work was carried out by a team of more than 20 people.
Talgo has expressed its satisfaction with this step and congratulated the team that made it possible. The company says the work demonstrates its ability to deliver in Europe’s most demanding markets.
