Adif, the Spanish rail infrastructure manager, has awarded the contract for refurbishing Soria station’s passenger building and external areas. The works are valued at €4.47 million.
The project will remodel the interior of the building and restore the original appearance of its exterior. It also includes improvements to station access, with road and pedestrian traffic reorganised and the car park relocated.
The refurbishment of the passenger building will improve passenger flows by relocating the main entrance concourse to the building’s three central bays, allowing direct access to the platforms. A new accessible toilet block will be installed in the eastern section, together with vertical access to the first floor via a new lift and staircase.
The first floor will be used for commercial purposes, providing accommodation with up to nine bedrooms and two toilet and changing-room facilities arranged along a central corridor running between both ends of the floor. It will include indoor and outdoor communal rest areas, bringing the building’s external terraces back into use.
The works to restore the appearance of the building designed by Gutiérrez Soto will remove render and later additions imposed on the structure, helping recover its architectural heritage. A roof identical to the original will also be installed.
